I found this cute kid-friendly cookie recipe for my kiddos. They really loved the idea of sprinkling a ton of colored sprinkles all over the dough! Everyone had to have their turn including my baby is who is 21 months.
After dough is very chilled, roll it out.
Sprinkle the sugar.
Roll it up tightly.
Carefully transfer to plastic wrap and and chill it.
Then slice them up and bake them.
Recipe (Adapted from Kraft Foods Magazine):
1 8oz. cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp butter, melted
powdered sugar for rolling
colored sugar sprinkles
Beat first 4 ingredients in large bowl with mixer until blended. Add flour and baking soda and beat again. Transfer dough to plastic wrap, seal up, and chill it for 2 hours.
Once dough is chilled, remove from fridge and cut it in half. Put one half back in fridge. Working quickly, lay out a sheet of wax paper and sprinkle generously with powdered sugar. Sprinkle dough with powdered sugar too. Begin rolling out to approximately a 12 x 9 inch rectangle (its okay if it is more like an oval, just get it close). Brush dough with 1 tbsp of melted butter. Sprinkle generously with colored sugar. Beginning at short end, roll up tightly. Carefully transfer rolled dough to plastic wrap. Wrap it up and chill for one hour. Repeat with other half of dough.
Preheat oven to 375. Remove from fridge, and cut dough into 1/4 inch slices. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 3 minutes and transfer to wire rack to cool.
And just for a little bonus, here’s my youngest that seemed to take really well to the cookie dough! Like mother like daughter…
