Pizza Patty Melts – Flavorful patty melts coated in sauce served atop a garlic toast and topped with pepperoni, mozzarella, and parsley. #BertolliTuscanTour
I love combining classic foods to create a meal. I’m sure my husband is probably just wanting a normal meal every now and then, but I can’t stop. I like to change things up a bit. I think it comes with the job. My focus more and more is taking one idea and turning it into a completely new recipe. I mean it’s got to be good, right? I always have recipe ideas floating around in my head.
And it doesn’t take much to make me think of pizza. It is one of my favorite things in life. It is my comfort food. And when I get the opportunity to turn something into pizza, you can bet I will! That is how these Pizza Patty Melts were born.
For this wonderful little creation, I used a Bertolli® sauce I picked up at Walmart. I chose the Tomato & Basil flavor because I wanted that classic pizza flavor. Plus I really love the premium flavor and quality of their sauces. They are Tuscan-inspired, and y’all know from this post, I’m a bit obsessed with all things Italian! I also love how Bertolli® has been around a long time and is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary. I knew their sauce would go perfectly with my patty melts!
I started by making my basic meatball mixture, which I LOVE! Then I added some peppers and onions and mushrooms and followed that up by letting it all simmer in the Bertolli® Tomato & Basil sauce. To finish these off, you just pile on some pepperoni and cheese, and stick them under the broiler.
Then you say hello to the perfect knife and fork kind of meal! Really these were so good!

Pizza Patty Melts
Ingredients
- 2 lbs. ground round
- 1 egg
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
- 1/3 cup shredded parmesan
- 2 pinches crushed red pepper flakes
- 3 pinches of dried oregano
- 1 1/2 tsp creole seasoning
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 medium green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1/2 cup chopped mushrooms
- 1 jar Bertolli® Tomato & Basil Sauce
- 5 garlic toasts (found in freezer section)
- 30 pepperoni
- 5 slices mozzarella
- Optional: Fresh chopped parsley
Instructions
- Mix ground beef, egg, garlic, bread crumbs, parmesan, crushed red pepper flakes, oregano, and creole seasoning until combined.
- Form 5 patties. Make a depression in the center to keep patties from shrinking too much.
- Cook patties in a large skillet or saute pan until browned (about 15 to 20 minutes) over medium heat. Remove from pan.
- Add olive oil to pan. Add onions, peppers, and mushrooms. Saute for about 5 minutes.
- Add patties back to pan. Add Bertolli® sauce. Stir and flip patties to coat with sauce. Simmer covered over medium heat for another 7 minutes.
- Cook garlic toasts at 425 degrees for 5 minutes. Remove from oven. Turn on oven broiler.
- Onto each garlic toast, top with a patty, sauce with veggies, 3 pepperoni, slice of mozzarella, 3 more pepperoni. Place under broiler for about 2 to 3 minutes or until cheese is melted. Top with fresh parsley.
