This is one of my favorite recipes! I’ve been making it since I was a newlywed (11 years next month:) It is a Rachael Ray recipe, and I give her all the credit for sparking my love for cooking. She was one of the first TV chefs I ever watched. I learned a lot of simple cooking techniques from watching her on 30 Minute Meals everyday. I’ve never met her, but I think if I did, I’d start crying! I know, I’m corny and cheesy, but that is honestly how I feel about the girl!
These sloppy joes are so good that I cannot bring myself to try another recipe. So here I share the recipe with you:
Recipe:
Slightly adapted from: Rachael Ray 30-Minute Meals 2 (A super fun cookbook!)
1 1/4 lbs. ground beef round or sirloin
1/4 cup cup brown sugar
2 1/2 tsp McCormick Montreal Steak Seasoning (a must)*
A dash of creole seasoning or seasoned salt
1 medium onion, chopped
1 small red bell pepper, chopped
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cups tomato sauce
2 tbsp tomato paste
4 hamburger buns
Brown ground beef. While beef is browning, add brown sugar and steak seasoning. Once it is mostly browned, add onions and red bell pepper. Reduce heat to medium and let onions and peppers soften for about 5 to 7 minutes. At this point, I taste it to see if I should add a little of the creole seasoning or not. It’s just a personal preference. Add vinegar and stir to help it reduce. Add worcestershire, tomato sauce, and paste. Reduce heat to simmer for about 5 more minutes. Serve on buns.
We had a Root Beer Float and tator tots with ours!
*The steak seasoning is a staple at our house. We use it on our steaks too. It is amazing! They sell it in big containers at Sam’s too.
